About Meditation

If you’ve ever wondered about meditation, what it is, or what it can do for you, you are not alone.  Meditation seems to be all the rage right now.  And, although it has been around for thousands of years, it seems to be finally catching up with mainstream society.  With the help of big personalities such as Oprah, Deepak Chopra, Dr. Oz, Ellen DeGeneres, and Russell Brand to name a few, meditation is growing as another holistic health alternative.

 

Meditation is a means of gaining and maintaining balance by making time to go within yourself and getting centered.  It is a period of deep relaxation where emotional and physical healing can take place.  It is a state in which we can clear the mind and become “thought-less.”  Meditation is also a way to gain self-awareness, insight, and a higher level of consciousness.

 

Along with a greater sense of peace and tranquility, meditation also brings many health benefits.  A quick search on the internet will produce multiple studies showing that:

 

  • blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline are lowered

  • meditation enhances the immune system

  • meditation decreases depression, anxiety, and insomnia

  • meditation reduces stress and burnout

  • meditation improves your imagination, creative abilities, and problem solving abilities-literally creating more brain matter

  • meditation improves your concentration, memory, and learning abilities

  • relationships become more harmonious and loving

  • meditation brings about a sense of calm and inner peace
